Growing up and attending high school in Midland Park, I played sports year round for the town, school, and a variety of North Jersey club teams.  Once my playing career was over, I developed a passion for training and fitness but really missed that intensity and competition that came along with playing sports.  A colleague of mine f told me about CrossFit and some of their ideals.  After a few free beginner classes at Crossfit Hoboken, I was hooked.  The combination of variety and intensity was exactly what I needed to take my fitness to the next level.  I developed a passion for this kind of training and I fully immersed myself in to every aspect of this program.  From there, I applied for the internship program at CFH and became a coach 5 months later after earning my CrossFit Level I Certification in October 2012.  CFH is the biggest Crossfit in New Jersey and is worldwide-known facility that has given me the foundation of what a successful box can do for people through fitness.

Over the 2 years of working at Crossfit Hoboken, I've coached every kind of athlete under the sun.  Former Division-I athletes and those that have not seen the inside of a gym in 10+ years have done the same workout right next to each other.  Kids in high school have done workouts with men and women in their 60s.  While the weights and difficulty of movements are scaled, I've developed and practiced programs, progressions, and strategies to ensure every individual athlete can improve their way of life through fitness, the CrossFit way.  I've seen and personally experienced what this kind of training can do for quality of life, no matter who you are or what your background is.  I want to share and help guide those that are willing to take a leap of faith and bring their fitness to an entirely new level.

CrossFit has brought back the fun and excitement of the competition, hard work, and the intensity that I experienced as an athlete growing up in Glen Rock. I started CrossFitting in 2010 and immediately knew this was a sport that I wanted to immerse myself in. I began developing the skills necessary to start coaching classes and training clients through an internship program at CrossFit Hoboken. CrossFit has played a very beneficial role in my life preparing me mentally and physically to endure the stresses of over 12 years in the financial world.  As a coach, I relay my personal experiences with diet, exercise, and stress in an effort to help and motivate the athletes. I feel very strongly that CrossFit holds essential components necessary to live a long, strong, and healthy life.

Like many high school athletes, I was an extremely athletic kid who gravitated towards a variety of sports throughout high school, including gymnastics, snowboarding and soccer. But once high school ended, so did many of my activities, leaving my once athletically occupied social life with a complete void. Through my search for something competitively fulfilling that offered variety and camaraderie, I found CrossFit, where my gymnastics background proved to be extremely beneficial. CrossFit Hoboken is where it all started in 2013, and now CrossFit Bison is where I continue to nourish my passion to not only better myself, but to also better my Bison Beasts! I may be a part of Bison’s foundation, but our athletes are what have grown that foundation into an awesomely thriving community that I am so lucky to be a part of. There’s no other gym like CrossFit Bison, I can promise you that!

In second grade, I came home with a handout from school and begged my parents to let me play soccer.  Eventually, my love for the sport had me playing year-round on club teams, boys’ teams and select teams.  I played soccer and threw javelin for Kingsway Regional High School in southern NJ.  While earning my B.S. in Biology, I played division III soccer at Ursinus College in PA.  After college and a brief stint in pharma, I changed career paths and became a HS biology teacher where I taught Biology, AP Biology and Anatomy & Physiology.  It was during this time that I became an assistant HS girls’ soccer coach and fell in love with coaching.  Fast forward to leaving my job and giving birth to three kids, I started CrossFit after seeing limited results in the group classes I was taking; I wanted my pre-baby body back!  My best friend urged me to try CrossFit around the time Bison was opening.  I fell in love—with the intensity, the variation in daily workouts, the competition and the community.  I feel fortunate that I am able to incorporate my love for coaching with my love of CrossFit.  For me, the best part of coaching is seeing athletes do what they never thought possible and seeing them achieve goals they never thought they could attain.

During my college football career I was constantly training to improve as a player. I would work hard to get stronger and faster. Once I graduated I continued to exercise. Soon, my workouts would become monotonous. I struggled to find a mode of training that I enjoyed. I was in a fitness rut and  very little progress was made.

One afternoon I was flipping though the channels and stumbled across the "CrossFitGames" on ESPN. I was immediately interested. Soon after my wife Nicole and I joined a local CrossFit gym. The intensity, variety and competitive nature of the workouts was exactly what I needed.

Becoming a coach was one of the best decisions that I have made. I love helping others reach their fitness goals in a safe, and encouraging environment. I feel very lucky and blessed to have the opportunity to coach at Bison, a gym that embodies the spirit of CrossFit.

Growing up in Allendale, I was active in soccer, baseball, track, martial arts, swimming, and ice hockey.  Throughout high school and college, I maintained a workout regiment at the local gym but was still not satisfied with my fitness level.  After college and moving to Hoboken, I was able to find a group of like-minded people that wanted to be the best version of themselves.  It was at this point that fitness became a huge part of my life.  What initially drew me to CrossFit was the high intensity and constant variation of the workouts.  Never knowing what the next day would bring, be it gymnastics, sprinting, distance running, or heavy weightlifting, keeps me invested.  What I did not expect was to find such and amazing community of people at CrossFit Bison.  The coaches and other members are constantly providing encouragement and feedback, which is essential to keeping an athlete on track.  I have since dedicated myself to learning and practicing fitness in all aspects of my life.  I hope to share this knowledge with the members of the Bison community.
